Pew Upholstery

Reupholstery means we remove the old fabric and usually the old foam, then install new high-density foam and commercial-grade fabric on the pews you already have. It is not a loose cushion sitting on the wood. It is a permanent, factory-style recover done in your sanctuary.

The pews do not go on a truck. We bring a scaled factory press into the aisle and work pew by pew. That is why historic rooms and sloped floors are normal jobs for us, and why you do not empty the sanctuary for a month.

Most church pew upholstery runs about $25–$60 per linear foot, depending on seat-only vs seat-and-back vs fully upholstered (seat, back, and bookrack side), fabric, foam, and pew shape. Measure each pew, add the lengths, and that footage is the starting number. Travel and wood repairs can move the bid. A quote is free.

Seat only is the lowest cost per foot. Seat and back is what most churches want. Fully upholstered covers the bookrack side of the back as well. Tell us what is on the pew now and whether you want the same coverage or more.

If the pews are old enough to need new fabric, the foam is usually tired. We replace it with high-density foam specified for weekly worship. Covering dead foam is how a “cheap” recover fails in two years.

Two-way fabric walks off the nose and the corners. We use 4-way stretch commercial goods with soil-release and UV resistance so the wrap stays tight at the bullnose, the cap, and the ends — the places a local furniture shop usually loses first.

Hand-stapled field upholstery loosens at the crown and the nose. The press we built from factory pew methods compresses foam and fabric the length of the pew so the finish looks like it left a plant, not a weekend side job.

No. Crews schedule around worship. Typical on-site time is 3 days to 2 weeks once materials are in the building. Materials themselves often take 12–16 weeks to order and ship. Plan backward from Easter or Advent if those dates are fixed.

Sound pew frames are usually worth keeping. On-site reupholstery is commonly about one-third the cost of new pews of similar quality, and you keep the wood the congregation already knows. New pews make sense when the frames are failing or the layout must change.

Cushions are loose pads. Upholstery is fabric and foam fastened to the pew. Cushions are a different product and a different page. If the existing upholstery is rolling, stretched, or torn, recover the pew. Do not hide it under a cushion.
